Obituary for Betty Marie Barnes (Ford)

Betty Marie Barnes (Ford)
BETTY MARIE FORD BARNES

Betty Marie Ford Barnes, died peacefully in her home on Swamp Road, No. Brookfield on January 26, 2018 surrounded by 4 generations of family.
Betty was born October 8, 1924 on Paris Hill, the 3rd of 7 children born to Charles and Kathryn Creedon Ford. She attended local schools and graduated in 1942 from Waterville High School. She had aspirations of becoming a stewardess, but at that time it was necessary to be an RN first. Betty graduated from Faxton Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 and went on to the Brady School in Albany to specialize in obstetrical nursing. During nurses' training, she went with her brothers to a local dance where she met Lester Barnes. He then went off to the Army at Ft. Riley Kansas and on to Japan. He wrote her several times, but she did not write back! Not to be put off, when the war was over, Lester came home and began calling on Betty and they attended many local dances together. They were married on September 28, 1946. Betty left her nursing career and enjoyed with Lester over 54 years of farming, family and dancing together. When Lester suffered a debilitating stroke, Betty cared for him at home for over 10 years until his death in 2001.
Betty was always doing something useful. She served in all the activities of raising a family of 5 children on a busy farm, but especially enjoyed gardening, putting up vegetables, sewing, quilting, tatting, knitting, baking cookies, caring for grandchildren and of course, dancing. Betty was an active member of St. Bernard's church in Waterville and St. Mary's in No. Brookfield. She also spent countless hours volunteering at Harding's Nursing Home.
The hallmark of Betty's life is best described as GOODNESS. From a young age, she incorporated doing good and service to others as a foundation for her life.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Lester and her four brothers: Bob(Barbara) Ford, Vinny(Marcia) Ford,Richard (Ann) Ford & Jim(Janis) Ford; also by a grand-daughter, Sara Barnes and great-granddaughter Isabelle Henderson.
She is survived by her 5 children; Rod(MaryAnn Marrone) Barnes of O'Falls; Jerry (Laura) Barnes of O'Falls, Kathryn (John) Bloise of Addison NY, Mike (Glenice) Barnes of No. Brookfield, Richard (Anne) Barnes of No. Brookfield; also by her 2 sisters, Eileen (Jack) Shepherd of New Hartford and Ann(Dan) Moriarty of Oriskany, along with 16 grandchildren: Jason (Leslie) Barnes of Dallas, Jeff (Jillian) Barnes of Poughkeepsie, Lisa (Krispin) Dolbear of Syracuse, Will (Erica) Barnes of Cazenovia, Alex (Robin) Barnes of Clinton, Mike (Nicole Folk) Bloise of Raleigh, Joseph (Nicole) Bloise of Nazareth PA, Megan Barnes of Madison, Greg(Julie) Barnes of No. Brookfield, Cheryl (John) McGurk of Rochester, Amanda Barnes of Waterville, Ron(Jodi) Barnes of Middleburg NY, JoAnn (Aylan) Briedis of Syracuse, Andrew (Jie) Barnes of Seattle, Regina (Andy) Henderson of No. Brookfield, Stephanie (Ian) McGregor of Syracuse, and 26 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 11:00 am from St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, NY. Interment will be held in the spring in St. Bernard’s Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel) 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY.
