Obituary for Coralie M. Ulatowski (Martin)

Coralie M. Ulatowski (Martin)
Coralie M. Ulatowski, 86, of East State St., Sherburne, NY, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
She was born December 26, 1928 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of Albert and Mary Kinderman Martin. Following her high school graduation, she attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Business School and worked as a dental assistant and a paralegal prior to her marriage. On November 23, 1950, Coralie married Jerome J. Ulatowski in Buffalo. Their wonderful life together became more joyful with the addition of nine children. Moving to Sherburne in 1962, Coralie became involved in various activities with her children and community, along with working for Hodges and Balch’s Department Stores. Jerome predeceased her on April 24, 2014.
A communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne, she was president of the Altar & Rosary Society, a eucharist minister, studied and completed formation in scripture. She and Jerry started the Fall Harvest suppers at church, and held many religious retreats at their home with many friends, priests and bishops. She was an active member of the Sherburne Council of Churches; a member of the American Legion Post #876 Auxiliary; and an integral part of most, if not all, activities in Sherburne.
Once her children were grown and gone from home, she and Jerry operated a Bed & Breakfast in their home, mostly accommodating Colgate families with whom she remained in contact for many years. Coralie was known for her social, cooking and baking skills for many community functions. She was a loving, caring and kind woman who touched everyone. She loved unconditionally, regardless of the circumstances or the individual. Her love of others never waivered and was the same for friends, neighbors, and especially family. She was known by all as “Mrs. U”, and will be fondly remembered.
Wintering in Florida, she continued her love of people, food and good times. She was active on the social committee of Shadow Lakes, coordinating most holiday and general social “happy hours”, both at the club and in her home. Her faith and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was ever present and she faithfully participated in the Legion of Mary groups. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean, and her most memorable trip was a visit to the Lourdes Shrine in France.
Coralie is survived by her children, Amelia and Brian Leach, Jerome J., II and Lydia Ulatowski; Damian and Mary Ellen Ulatowski; Gregory Ulatowski; Andrea and Howard Way; Justine Ballin; Jacob and Lori Ulatowski; Roberta and James Westfall; and Christopher Ulatowski; 28 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Albert and Franklin Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Main St., Norwich.
Interment will be private in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Friday from 4-8pm.
Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 11000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908; or to the Sherburne Area Council of Churches, c/o St. Malachy’s Church, PO Box 722, Sherburne, NY 13460.
