Irene A. Moynihan, 69, of Eaton St., Hamilton, NY, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at her home, following a brief illness.
She was born October 30, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of Eugene and Irene Toomey Shields. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Syracuse and received her nursing training in Troy, NY. On July 2, 1966, Irene was united in marriage to William Moynihan in Blessed Sacrament Church, Syracuse. She had worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse in the premature nursery, and following her marriage she became a full time homemaker, devoting her life to raising her family. Later, while living in Milwaukee, WI, Irene worked in Medical Records at Milwaukee Eye Care until her retirement.
Mrs. Moynihan was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton where she was very active in the Altar and Rosary Society for many years. She had done volunteer work for various organizations including the Milwaukee Public Museum, and was also an avid Colgate hockey fan.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, William; her children, Patricia Moynihan of Alexandria, VA; Erin and Kenneth Caswell of Falmouth, MA and Sean Moynihan of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren, McKayla and Colleen Caswell and Liam Moynihan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene Shields of Charlotte, NC; Allen and Maxine Shields of Syracuse, NY; Michael and Patricia Shields of Tamarac, FL; brother-in-law, Bernard (Gail) Moynihan of Herkimer, NY; sister-in-law, Kathleen Moynihan of Little Falls, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Shields.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from St. Mary’s Church, Wylie St., Hamilton, NY.
Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hamilton will be private.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Monday from 5-8 pm.
