Obituary for Charles C. "Chuck" Gorton

Charles C. "Chuck"  Gorton
: Charles C. “Chuck” Gorton, 88, of Gorton Rd., passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his home.
He was born June 12, 1930 in Hamilton, a son of Marcene and Marie Klem Gorton and was a graduate of Hamilton High School. He married Harriet Close who predeceased him in 1976. He later married Janet Dow who died in 2010. Charles had worked for Snyder’s Milk Plant at one time. He began his farming career working on his father’s farm and in 1958 started his own farm with 114 acres and 50 milking cows. He was also a substitute bus driver for Hamilton School District for many years, and he continued as a regular driver until retiring in 1986. He loved transporting the kids to sporting events, most often football and baseball games, field trips and class trips like Washington, DC. After he sold his cows, he spent more time driving bus to different activities and B.O.C.E.S. Following his retirement, he worked for Birnie Bus/ Town and Gown in Hamilton where he drove tour buses, took Head Start children to Utica and nursing students from SUNY, Morrisville to Syracuse. He loved driving to see sites in other states and always enjoyed his comfortable tour bus seat. He also drove a dump truck for Stub Baker. He retired in 2007 to care for his wife, Janet.
Surviving are his companion, Shirley Hotaling; his children, Kathryn and George Eiholzer of Hamilton; Susan and Phil Jillson of West Eaton; Joseph Gorton of Morgan City, LA; step-children, David Dow and companion, Joelyn Manley of Augusta; Carol Maxam and companion, Jim Forsythe of Vernon; Terry and Brenda Dow of Hamilton; two sisters, Jean Omerso of Eaton and Dorothy Soule of Hamilton; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Lee Gorton; and a grandson, Steven Wilcox.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 3-5pm.
Services and interment in Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville, are private.
