Obituary for Raymond M. Krehel

RAYMOND M. KREHEL

MARCELLUS: Raymond Michael Krehel, 91, of Kinderwood Dr., formerly of Hamilton, NY died on July 6, 2017.
He was born in Kingston, PA on February 4, 1926, older son of Michael and Verna Krehel. He married Anita L. Hicks on January 26, 1957, his loving wife of over 60 years who resides in Marcellus.
After graduating from Kingston High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and is a combat veteran of 5 assault landings in the Pacific during WWII. He graduated from Colgate University in 1949 and from NYU Graduate School of Business Administration in 1953. He worked for NY Telephone Company and then Esso Standard Oil Co. from 1949 into 1953 before moving to Nasson College (where he met his future bride) in Springvale, Maine as Business Manager.
They moved to Hamilton, NY in 1960 where Ray was first Controller, then Vice President for Business and Finance at Colgate University. He was also Treasurer of the Colgate University Board of Trustees. The Colgate Alumni Association awarded him a Maroon Citation and The Alumni Award for Distinguished Service.
He was active in the Village of Hamilton having served as a Trustee of the Village, Chairman of the Board of Community Memorial Hospital and a member of the Colgate Inn Board. He also served on the Board of Directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utica for many years, on the Board of Madison County Development Association, and on the Board of Directors of Oneida Valley National Bank.
He was active among College and University Business officers having served as President of the Eastern Association, as Secretary of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and as Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on TIAA-CREF. He also served on many Middle States Evaluation committees during this time.
After retirement from Colgate, he worked with David J. Greene and Co. of New York City. He was also a licensed securities broker, a Certified Financial Planner, and a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Anita; 5 daughters, Dr. Carol Krehel of Hamilton, NY; Donna Rouse (Jim) and children Lisa (Sam Reier), Martin and Alex of Camillus and Marcellus, NY; Lois Gentry and children Emily, Jerry, Noreen and Ross of Decorah, IA; Laura Krehel and son, Nicholas Griffith of Syracuse, NY; Janet Curlee (Scott) and children Sam, Marc and Ben of North Wales, PA; and a brother, Michael Krehel (Patricia) of Griffin, GA.
Interment in Colgate University Cemetery is private.
