JAMES R. BROWN

SMYRNA: James Richard Brown, 82, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born August 21, 1934 in Smyrna, the son of the late Leon H. and Florence Warren Brown. He received his education in Smyrna schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On July 25, 1954, James married Arlene Ferris. James made his career working at Standard Brands/Nabisco Brands, a total of 44 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, trapping, trap shooting and producing maple syrup. He loved gardening, canning, perfecting recipes, and sharing this knowledge with his family and friends.
James was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne; a proud member of the National Rifle Association; and a member of the Smyrna Fire Department.
Surviving are his children, Bruce and Cindy Brown of Smyrna; Karen and Dean Carrigan of Sparta, NJ; Debra and Sydney Smith of Morrisville; four grandchildren, Dylan, Leanna, Amanda and Katie; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Wade. He was predeceased by his siblings, Barbara Vidler, Ethel Skinner, Edith Davis, Charles and Leon Brown.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3pm Friday, June 2, 2017 in the Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jim's life following the service at Bruce's home, 240 Lawrence-Hunsicker Rd. Smyrna.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Smyrna Fire Department.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY.
