Obituary for Stanley D. Sambora

Stanley D. Sambora, 84, of Terry Meadows Drive, Waterville, NY, died December 27, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare.
Born in Hazleton, PA on March 18, 1932, he was a son of Mary (Zurenda) and Stanley J. Sambora. He graduated from Hazelton High School.
Stanley served in the US Army with the National Security Agency and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. After his discharge, he attended St. Bonaventure University and graduated from Broome Technical Community College. On June 24, 1961 he married Carol Edwards in St. Catherine’s Church, Hillcrest, NY.
He was employed by New York State Electric and Gas Corp. in the engineering and sales departments in Elmira and as local manager in Hammondsport and Waterville. He retired in 1990 after 31 years of service.
Stanley was a member of St. Bernard’s Church and the Waterville Historical Society. He was a founding member of the Waterville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was a member and Treasurer of the Waterville Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, Roses for the Living recipient and Rotarian for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Anne M. Ginsberg and her husband Michael, of Nashville, TN and Mary Elizabeth Plourde and her husband Douglas of Waterville; two adored grand-daughters, Emily Kay Plourde and Madeline Ginsberg. Also surviving are a sister, Janet Orosz and her husband Edward of Vestal, NY, a brother, David and his wife Kathleen of Brewster, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 31st, 2016 at 10am from St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville.
Friends are invited and may call on Friday, December 30th from 5 to 8pm at The Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster-Northrop Memorial Chapel) 210 E. Main St, Waterville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Smile, do a good deed and make someone’s day.
