Obituary for Carolann Compton (Parshall)

Carol Compton, 71, of Hubbardsville, NY, passed away November 4, 2016, peaceful at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carol was born July 29, 1945 and shortly thereafter was adopted, from an Episcopal Orphanage, a gift of love by her to be parents Carmelita Littell and LeRoy Lewis Parshall of Cooperstown, NY.
Carol enjoyed her youth in the beautiful community of Cooperstown. She was an active with Ski Club Patrol and was an accomplished equestrian.
In 1967 she married Harry C. Compton, of Binghamton, NY. Together they raised their son, Lynn Davis and a daughter, Cynthia Ann.
Carol obtained hew Bachelor of Science Degree from Upstate Medical University and a Masters in Health Services Administration from the Milano Graduate School for Business and Management from the New School for Social Research in NYC. She continued her education and her desire to serve her faith by obtaining a Certificate in Pastoral Care from the Wayne E Oates Institute.
She worked in several local cytology laboratories for 15 years, and then started her own agency working in facilities nationwide. Following a serious automobile accident, she retired and followed her true passions, devoting her time to volunteer work. She was active with, and a prior board member of the Hamilton Food Cupboard.
One of her greatest devotions of helping others was accomplished through her development of a non-profit organization which was committed to helping individuals obtain medications that they could not afford on their own. Through her hard work with obtaining grants, working with physicians, pharmaceutical companies and social service agencies, she was able to supply about a quarter of a million dollars in medicine to qualified patients each year.
She served her church, St. Thomas’s in Hamilton as a Warden, vestry member, Chair of the Worship Committee, and in delivering Pastoral Care as a Lay Eucharistic Ministry. She found great satisfaction and cherished providing service to the ill and shut in members of the community.
She is survived by her spouse of 49 years, Harry C. Compton, her son Lynn Compton, and daughter in law, Andrea (Carroccio) of Hamilton. A Daughter, Cynthia Winton, son-in-law, Ron and her beloved Grandsons Mitchell and Kyle Winton of Sherburne. A brother and sister in law, Charles and Patti Compton of Florida, and Nieces Jennifer (Harry) & children, Michelle (Sean) & children, and Debbie (Adam). Carol cherished the special friendships and support of her prayer group at St. Thomas’s and amazing friends Nick and Gale Smith.
Carol was predeceased by her infant daughter Jill Ann Compton.
A Mass of Christian burial will held at St Thomas's church, 12 1/2 Madison St., Hamilton, NY on Wednesday, November 9 at noon. There will be no formal calling hours, however the family welcomes those who wish to pay respects to do so between 10:30 – 11:30 AM at St. Thomas's immediately preceding the service.
Burial will take place at the Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown, NY at the convenience of the family.
The family extends our deepest gratitude to the Hospice program and the caring and devoted staff which allowed her to remain peacefully in her home with her family and pets through the end of her illness.
Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice, the Hubbardsville Fire Dept, SOMAC, or SPCA.
