George E.J. Lehmann, 88, of Queensbury, NY passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at St. Luke’s Home in Utica, NY.
He was born March 27, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, one of ten children of Henry and Elizabeth Knipper Lehmann. He joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, and later enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and was part of the European Occupation Forces. George married Shirley Elizabeth Chase who predeceased him on April 6, 1997. George had been a corrections officer for the NYS Department of Corrections at the Great Meadows facility until retiring after 25+ years.
Mr. Lehmann was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Queensbury; the B.P.O. Elks Club and the Optimists Club. He had been a founding member of the V.F.W. posts in Queensbury and Corinth, and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Surviving are his children, Kathleen Lehmann of Queensbury; Edwin (Marcia) Lehmann of Lehigh, KS; Paul (Susan) Lehmann of Hamilton; grandchildren, Zachary, Jay (Chelsea) Lehmann; great-grandchild, Harper; a sister, Libby Delena of Dallas TX; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Home, 1650 Champlain Ave., Utica, NY.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment in the Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury is private at the convenience of the family.
