Obituary for John R. "Jack" Youngs

John R. "Jack"  Youngs
John R. “Jack” Youngs, 90, of Waterville passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at his home. Jack was born the son of Harold and Kathryn Gibbons Youngs on May 19, 1926 in Utica. He was a graduate of Waterville High School class of 1944. Jack enlisted in the US Army during WW II and served in Europe with a Tank Destroyer Battalion. Jack lived most of his life in Waterville. On November 12, 1955 in Waterville he married the former Patricia Dunn and they shared a very close and loving marriage. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville, the Waterville Vol. Fire Dept. serving for a time as Deputy Chief, and was the Clerk of the Works for the fire house. He also was a member of the American Legion – Clifford J. Fulmer Post # 92, Waterville (Town of Sangerfield) and was the past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Waterville. Jack served as superintendent of the Public Works for the Village of Waterville during the sewer construction period and the installation of the natural gas system. He also was the Town of Sangerfield Welfare Officer for almost 40 years and was the first Civil Defense Chief for the Town.
Surviving are his wife Patricia; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Jeffery Chrysler of Waterville; grandchildren, Ryan and Alecia Chrysler and Tiffany and Jason Florenz and two great-grandsons, Austin and Tucker Florenz and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Harold ‘Chesty” Youngs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 1, 2016 at 1 PM from St. Bernard’s Church, Stafford Ave., Waterville.
Interment will Military Honors will follow at St. Bernard’s Parish Cemetery.
Friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel) 210 East Main St., Waterville, NY.
The family has requested no floral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to the Waterville Vol. Fire Dept., 222 East Main St., Waterville, NY 13480 or the Waterville Area Vol. Ambulance Corps., 7769 US-20 Waterville, NY 13480
