Obituary for Frederick F. "Fred" Truax

Frederick F. Truax, 71, of County Rd., 24, Sherburne, NY, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at his home.
He was born June 2, 1944 in Norwich, NY, a son of the late Frederick and Alice Pike Truax and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On July 25, 1992, Fred married Rita M. Barnhart in Sherburne. She predeceased him on May 1, 2013. Fred was a tool and die marker at Oneida Ltd. In Sherrill until retiring. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing. His family was his greatest joy and he especially loved the times spent clowning around with the younger kids.
Fred was a member of American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #364 of Norwich.
Surviving are his children, Edward J. and Mary Batsford of McDonough; Robert D. and Michele Carhart of Sherburne; and Craig A. Magacs of Greene; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Arlo Truax of Sherburne; Robert and Barbara Truax of Morganton, NC; his grandchildren, Ashley and Myranda Batsford, Jordan and Christian Carhart, and Dalton Peek; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Marie A. Magacs; three brothers, David, Walter and Donald Truax; three sisters, Beverly Gilbert, Sandra Maricle and Connie McNeiece; and his step-father, Arlo Foster.
Funeral services will be held at 7pm Friday, February 19, 2016 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Spring interment with military honors will be in the Sherburne Quarter Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7pm.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Legion Post #876, So. Main St. Sherburne; or to the Columbus Community Church, 4311 State Rt. 80, New Berlin, NY 13411.
