Shirley E. Spearing
WATERVILLE:
Mrs. Shirley E. Spearing, 87, of Madison Street, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her home.
She was born September 15, 1928 in Utica a daughter of Milton and Pearl Lamelle Engle and was a graduate of Oriskany Falls High School, and Syracuse University with a degree in nursing. On June 14, 1952 she was united in marriage to Arthur E. Spearing, MD in the Church of the Good Shepherd in Oriskany Falls. Dr. Spearing predeceased her on June 23, 2002. She was a charge nurse at Cambridge Hospital in Massachusetts, in the pediatric unit where she cared for premature infants. Mrs. Spearing continued her career in nursing as substitute at the Enders Road Elementary School in Manlius and the Waterville Central School System, where she also tutored students in reading. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hamilton. Mrs. Spearing was very giving of herself, not only in the community, but those in need. She was a wonderful lady with a big heart. She enjoyed bird watching and was a true animal lover. Shirley was a league bowler at one time and currently a member of The Book Club in Waterville. In her quiet time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and building puzzles.
Surviving is her true love and pleasure. Two daughters and sons-in-law, LeeAnne and Jim Morle, of Bouckville; Sharon and Douglas Peckham, Algonquin, IL; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Arthur E. Spearing, III and Pamela Spearing, of Palmyra, PA and Mark Spearing of Waterville; seven grandchildren, Dulcie and Josh Fisher, Buffalo; Ethan Miller, Boonville; Danielle and Scott Burton, Carpentersville, IL; Rachel Peckham, Rosemont, IL; Cameron Peckham, Chicago, IL; Ian Spearing and Katie Spearing, Palmyra, PA and a brother, Allen T. Engle of Oriskany Falls.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM from St. Thomas Church, Madison St. Hamilton. The family will receive friends and relatives at the conclusion of the service. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
