WATERVILLE: Thomas J. Van Slyke, 61, of State Rt. 12, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare.
He was born October 3, 1952 in Utica, a son of the late Francis J. and Louise Fancett Van Slyke. He received his early education in Waterville school, was a graduate of Brookfield High School and the Utica School of Commerce. Tom had worked at Home Depot in Cicero for over 15 years, until he became ill. He had been the former owner of Rome Paint and Wallpaper in Rome. He was a hardworking man who was also a part-time bookkeeper for the Town of Western.
Tom was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center in East Syracuse.
Surviving are his children, Matthew D. and Chalette Van Slyke of Belton, TX; Michele M. and Steve Yaddaw of Westmoreland; sister and brother-in-law, Ginny and Ted Harrington of Waterville; brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Diane Van Slyke of Bouckville; grandchildren, Kian, Maylee, Camron, Brandon, Sara and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Van Slyke, and a brother, Edwin Van Slyke.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday April 29, 2014 from the Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville.
Interment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Waterville.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 5-8pm.
