Obituary for Betty P. Kniffin (Peters)

Betty P. Kniffin (Peters)
Betty P. Kniffin, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, died suddenly on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at home, at the age of 83. She was born in Utica on July 20, 1928, daughter of Bradley S. and Gertrude C. Peters. She attended UFA and graduated near the top of her class. On July 31, 1948, she married World War II veteran Robert B. Kniffin, a union that lasted until his death on April 28, 1994. She worked for T.C. Peters Printing Company, and Graphics of Utica, retiring in 1983 to the country home in Brookfield that she and Bob loved dearly.
She was a lifelong member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Utica, NY, and also regularly attended the Brookfield Baptist Church.
She is survived by four daughters and their families: Sharon and Steven Wormwood of New Hartford, their children, Timothy, Stephanie and Rob Dexter, and Rebecca and Mark Hanna; Pamela and Bruce Youmans of Brookfield, their daughter, Melissa; Robin and Brian Kruse of Taunton, MA, their children, Robert, Jennifer and Jon Browe, and David; Deborah Mayne and her fiancé, Reginald Bigford of Earlville, NY, her children Jason and Courtney Acker, Daniel and Debra Acker, Ryan Acker and his fiancée Connianne Wendell, and Erin and Timothy Graham; and eight great-grandchildren Matthew, Garent, Ava and Aidan, Elizabeth, Kairi, Jude and Colin. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Peters and his wife, Sigrid; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Reynolds, numerous nieces and nephews, and her two beloved feline companions, Papa and Pixie.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes and that of the family, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 24, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Utica, NY at 1pm. A catered luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. A private family committal service will be held at home in Brookfield.
Betty (Mom, Granny and GG) will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. She derived great pleasure from spending time with her large family and creating beautiful quilts that were lovingly gifted to her daughters, grandchildren, friends and nursing homes. Her gardens were her pride and joy, and brought her many hours of peaceful pleasure.
In lieu of flowers, please remember the American Diabetes Assoc. and the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY.
