Catherine M. Furner, 77, of Bacon St., Waterville, NY, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica.
She was born September 23, 1933 in Malone, a daughter of Roy and Margaret McNamara Duquette. Her family moved to the Utica area in 1942 where she attended local schools and was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School in 1952. On July 20, 1957, Catherine was united in marriage to Gerald W. Furner in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica. She had worked at the First Bank & Trust Co. in Utica, and the New York Telephone Company at one time. Following her marriage, she became a full time homemaker and the mother of seven children whom she raised with loving care. She later worked at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, and then the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville.
Catherine was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville.
Surviving are her husband Jerry; her children, James and Dale Furner of Waterville; Michelle and Jeff Klingensmith of Sauquoit; Diane Furner of Waterville; Joseph Furner of Lake Worth FL; Gerald Furner of Mitchellville, MD; Suzanne and Howard Crawford of Waterville; John and Diana Furner of Sauquoit; a sister and brother-in-law, Illa and Ralph Gorton of New Hartford; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald and Darwin Duquette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, August 1, 2011 from St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville, followed by interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville from 4-7 pm Sunday.
