Theresa Belfield, 89, Sangerfield, NY and Liverpool, England, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 24, 2012 surrounded by her family.
Born January 16, 1923, she was one of 11 children of the late Elizabeth (Quinn) and James Finley, and was raised and schooled in Liverpool, England.
On November 14, 1945, she was wed at Our Lady’s Elden St., Liverpool, to Staff Sergeant Ebeneser Belfield, who was on duty in the European theater during WWII in Liverpool, England. She traveled to the U.S. on the Queen Mary with other war brides where she and Ebb settled in the Waterville area where she lived for over 64 years. Besides raising her family, she was also a vital asset in the operation of her husband’s business until his retirement in 1985.
Although Theresa was born and raised in England, she prided herself in the knowledge of American History and current events in the world. Theresa was an avid reader with interests in both historic and mystery publications.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ebeneser (Ebb) Belfield; 3 of her 4 children an their spouses, Liz (Patrick) Young, New Hartford, Patricia Hill, Waterville and Jim (Lisa) Belfield, Waterville; 10 grandchildren, Lilly (Stockbridge) Rockwell, Patrick Stockbridge, Jamie Hill, James Stockbridge, Christopher Green, Rachael (Hill) Coyle, Andrea (Green) Monoz, Ashley (Belfield) Caraher, Joshua Belfield, and Rebeca Belfield; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are two sisters, Lily Melia and Annie Chambers, both of Liverpool, England; two brothers, Mickey (Teresa) Finley, Tony (Marie) Finley, all of England; brothers-in-law, Harold (Helen) Belfield, Mechanicsville, Donald (Marilyn) Belfield, Waterville; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Fernandez, Ilion, as well as many nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her daughter, Theresa (Belfield) Green; brothers, James, Joey, Charlie, and Paddy Finley; sisters, Mary (Finley) Shea and Rosie Finley; in-laws, William Belfield, Gloria Buschor, Ora and Ruth Belfield, Winifred and Ferd Ames and James Fernandez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville, followed by interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
