John P. Decker, 75, of Church Rd. , Sauquoit, NY, passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 at Heritage Healthcare Center , Utica .
He was born July 15, 1936 in Richfield Springs , NY a son of J. William and Clara Domion Decker and received his education in local schools. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. On August 26, 1961, John married Helen Knosp in Oswego . John had worked in construction. He had also worked for Conrail, and the Sitrin and Lutheran Homes. He was of the Catholic faith. John was a member of the E.L. Clonan American Legion Post #1000 of Chadwicks.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Helen; his children, Cindy and Timothy St.Onge of Madison; and John Decker of Utica; grandchildren, Lisa Marie Decker of Albany; Sherrill Lynn Decker and Madison Lee Decker, both of Deansboro; and Jacob Paul St.Onge of Madison; sisters, Eleanor Wilbert of Ilion; Maryann (Albert) Fedorowicz of Syracuse; brothers, James (Joan) Decker of Richfield Springs and Joseph Decker of Montana. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Bridget Decker of Deansboro and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Robert, Albert and J. William, Jr.; and sisters, Irene Musa and Diane Toroini.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St. , Waterville .
Interment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Waterville .
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9pm.
