Obituary for Kathryn June Richmond (Angliss)

Kathryn June Richmond (Angliss)
K. June Richmond

Waterville/ New Hartford

Kathryn June Richmond passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
June was born June 5, 1925, the daughter of Ernest and Rebecca Merritt Angliss in Prattsburgh, NY. She graduated from Franklin Academy and Prattsburgh Central School as Valedictorian. After receiving an Associates Degree in Dietetics from Morrisville State College she served Holland Patent Central as head dietician from 1944 to 1951.
In 1951 she was united in marriage with Howard B. Richmond, a blessed union that lasted 47 years until Howard’s passing on Father’s Day, 1997. Together they ran the family farm and shared a special love while raising their two daughters Terry and Becca.
June later worked for Metropolitan Life as a claims supervisor until her retirement in 1987.
She was recently honored with the Roses for the Living Award from the Rotary Club of Waterville for a lifetime of contributions to the community.
Always interested in education, June was a proud charter member of the Waterville Central School Foundation and served with Community Volunteer Tutoring. She had been an officer in the Waterville Traveler’s Club, Waterville Women’s Club, and served as Past Matron of Crystal Chapter #188 O.E.S.
An active member of the Waterville Presbyterian Church, she had served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. June was named instructor emeritus by AARP for having taught hundreds in Safe Driving Classes. She volunteered for many activities at the Meadows in New Hartford. During the summer she loved spending time at the family’s camp on Lake Moraine.
She was an avid worldwide traveler who also enjoyed many bus trips and the friends she made during her journeys. She was a voracious reader, bridge player, and loved cooking and baking for others.
Her family includes two daughters and their spouses: Terry and Roger Tanner of Waterville, and Becca and Dale Durant of Munnsville, 5 beloved grandchildren: Tracy (and husband, Tom) Beasley of North Andover, MA, Matthew Tanner (and fiancée, Melissa Moshetti) of Oneida, Dale Howard, Nathan and Seth of Munnsville; a sister-in-law: LaVelle Angliss of Washington, nieces and nephew: Marilyn (Rolly) Mahany, Jean Mekus, and Robert (Donna) Erickson, all of Western New York, and Phyllis Hunt of Marcellus. Also close to her heart were Dr. George Gillmore and Kristen Gillmore, Paula Gray, Gretchen Busch, the Cowens, Tonettis and many, many others whose friendship she treasured. June was giving and caring, always generous and kind, fiercely independent and someone who made a difference in the community.
June was predeceased by a brother, James Angliss, of Washington, and sister, Mary Evans, of Florida.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the ICU staff of Community Memorial Hospital for her excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Howard and June Richmond Scholarship c/o Brothertown Scholarship Fund PO Box 454 Waterville NY 13480 or Community Memorial Hospital, 150 Broad Street, Hamilton, NY 13346.
The memorial celebration of June’s life will be a service held on Thursday November 3, 2011 at 1 pm at the Three Steeples Church in Paris with Rev. Edward Townsend officiating.
In honoring June’s wish and her last act of a lifetime of giving, her body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at Upstate Medical University for the advancement of medical education and research.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
