Obituary for Theodore C. "Ted" Barker

Ted (Gump) Barker, 75, of Earlville, NY, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY from complications of a massive heart attack on November 11, 2018.
Ted was born on February 25, 1943 in Earlville to Harold T. and Jane Dungey Barker. He was a graduate of Earlville High School and attended MVCC in Utica for a short time. Ted worked as a draftsman at T.A.C.O., Sherburne; Matthew Brothers, Delhi; GLA, Norwich; Gray, Syracuse; Town of Sherburne Highway Dept., and as a NYS Fire Instructor. He married Priscilla Stanton in Earlville on May 30, 1986.
Ted was a 55-year member of the Earlville Fire Department where he served in many offices, including as Chief for many years. He was Fireman of the Year in 1990, and had also been honored as Fireman of the Year in Madison and Chenango counties. He was also a member and President of the Earlville Conservation Club.
Ted was known for always meeting someone he knew, be it in the grocery store, the middle of O’Hare airport in Chicago, or at a restaurant near Cape Cod, MA. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golfing, and shooting trap. His favorite times were playing basketball and kickball with his twin granddaughters. He also enjoyed drinking coffee with friends and relatives, and last, but not least, mowing his lawn.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Priscilla; four daughters, Alexia (Brian) McIntyre of Swan Point, MD; Susan (Joe) Markiewicz of Earlville; Michele Barker-Miller of Bouckville; and Theresa Barker of Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren, Alex (Ashley) McIntyre, Evan (Christina Scott) McIntyre, Brian Miller and Michael Barker; twin granddaughters, Samantha and Amanda Markiewicz; two great-grandsons; a sister, Evalena (Jim) Marshall of Georgetown; two brothers, Ralph Barker and Gary (Lugene) Barker of Earlville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and three aunts, Irene Boos, Faith Clark and Betty Dungey.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville.
Interment will be at a later date in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11am to 2pm prior to the service.
