Richard J. “Rick” Garrett, 68, of Woodberry Rd., New Hartford, NY passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 at his home.
He was born March 29, 1950 in Utica, a son of Robert T. and Eunice “June” Helmes Garrett. He was a graduate of Waterville High School and Utica College with a business degree. Richard was the owner/operator of Garrett’s Foodland, which later became Food King in Waterville, until retiring in 2009. He enjoyed trivia, playing golf, and watching his favorite game shows, but his greatest enjoyment came from the family business. He loved the people of Waterville and the surrounding communities.
Rick was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford where he served as an usher for many years.
Surviving are his brother, Timothy Garrett of Morrisville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Dan Ventimiglia of Whitesboro; Kathleen and David “Doc” Upcraft of Waterville; nieces, Michelle (Chris) Hohn of Clinton; Katelyn (Dan) Cowen of Cazenovia; Megan (Matt) Belfield of Waterville; grand-nephew and -nieces, Zachary Smith, Hailey Hohn, Clara Cowen, and Mia Belfield; a cousin, Mary Helen Gaetano of New Port Richey, FL; and dear family friends, Patricia “Pat” Hunt of the Villages, FL and Earl DeLuke of New Hartford.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, July 7, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, followed by interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Waterville.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville on Friday from 5-8pm.
