Obituary for David M. Aley

David M. Aley
David M. Aley, 78, of Sherburne, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City from a very long and strong bout with cancer. He fought valiantly against this disease for 11 years and was successful until just recently. He is now at rest after his long battle
David was born October 2, 1939 in Oneida, NY a son of Edward and Lura Howlett Aley and received his education in Earlville schools and completed a course in automatic transmissions at Lincoln Technical Institute in Washington DC. In his younger days he had worked at the Amos Beecher Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Earlville and trained at Armstrong Flooring in PA. On July 1, 1962, David married Linda Dewey in Randallsville, NY. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and served in Washington DC at the Pentagon until being discharged in 1964. Following that, he and Linda moved back to New York where he worked at TACO in Sherburne for almost 20 years until that business moved to Arizona. He was then employed at Town & Gown in Hamilton transporting pre-school children to the many Head Start programs in and around Madison County for 15 years retiring in 2001. The joy he had with those young students always brought a smile to his face. Working in his yard was one of his greatest pleasures and he was especially proud of his gardens. He enjoyed decorating the house for Christmas and displaying all of Linda’s lighthouses during the holiday season.
David had worked with the Sherburne Cub Scout Troop for 25 years, and also helped his wife and sister, Bette, with the Girl Scout troop as well.
Surviving are his wife of over 55 years, Linda; a son, Richard Aley of Sherburne; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bette Mayne of Sherburne; Patricia and Robert Homovich of Greenwood, SC; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward, Jr. and Donna Aley of Sherburne; step-brother, Carl B. Aley of Alabama; step-sister, Fern Forward of Mattydale, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3pm Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Burial will be in the Pine Woods Cemetery in Bouckville, NY.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the David Aley Memorial Fund at NBT Bank, 30 North Main St., PO Box 712, Sherburne, NY 13460
