Obituary for James L. Franklin

JAMES L. FRANKLIN

WEST EATON: James L. Franklin, 85, of Westcott Rd., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home.
He was born October 26, 1932 in Norwich, NY, a son of Benjamin and Violet Tallett Franklin. He was a graduate of Sherburne Central School, received his B.S. in education from Buffalo State University, his Master’s Degree in counseling from Alfred University, and advanced studies in education from SUNY Oswego and Syracuse University. On January 23, 1958, James married Mildred L. Payne in Oneida, NY. Jim’s career was in education as a teacher, guidance counselor, high school principal and as a Superintendent of Schools for 20 years until retiring. He was a dedicated Rotarian and served as an advisor to the Governor of New York on education issues. His vision and goals were always to enrich and enhance the lives of young people. He was a member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Hamilton.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mildred; his children, Teri Pisciotta of Las Vegas, NV; Mark Franklin of New York NY; and Scott Franklin of Redwood City, CA; two sisters, Lois Middleton of Las Vegas, NV and Alberta Eaves of Cobleskill; two grandchildren, Nicholas Pisciotta and Brianna Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Charles Eaves.
Memorial services will be held at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 12-1/2 Madison St., Hamilton on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the service.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Thomas’ Church.
