MORRISVILLE: Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Betty passed away peacefully surrounded by many members of her family on April 5, 2018. She was 89 years old.
Born and raised in Waterville, NY, she and her six siblings were the children of Frank P. Morgan, owner of the local hardware store in Waterville, NY, and Frances Mabel Condon Morgan. Betty graduated from Waterville High School in 1947 and graduated from the Utica School of Business in 1948. She married Roy R. Roher of Morrisville, NY, on October 22, 1949. For 45 years she lived and worked on the family farm in Morrisville, NY, they shared with Roy’s brother and his family and raised seven children.
Betty was a devout Catholic and she was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Morrisville where she taught First Holy Communion for forty-six years. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Holy Rosary Society and Altar Society. She and Roy were recognized for their dedication to St. Joan’s in 2011 by the Archdiocese of Syracuse when they received the Immaculata Award for Service. When Betty and Roy retired from the family farm, they traveled extensively to many places in and outside the US, including the shrine of Our Lady of Medjugorje in Croatia, Jerusalem and the Holy Land, Ireland, Alaska and the Caribbean to name a few. For the last two years, she has been staying with her youngest daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Roher and their grandson, Will, in Redding, CT.
Betty is survived by her husband, Roy, of 68 years, her seven children, Jody Smith of Fairfield, CT, Bob Roher of Morrisville, NY, Kathy Roher of Hartsdale, NY, Carol McCloskey of Simsbury, CT, Lorrie Morton of Boston, MA, Connie Roher Kearns of Simsbury, CT and Virginia Roher of Redding, CT, five sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen “Honey” Morgan of Waterville, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Calling hours will be held at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar Street, Morrisville, NY, on Thursday, April 12th from 6-8 p.m.
The funeral mass followed by a luncheon reception in the church hall will be on Friday, April 13th at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc RC Church, 6 Brookside Dr., Morrisville.
A private burial will be held at a later date at Saint Bernard’s Cemetery in Waterville, NY.
