Obituary for Morris H. "Morrie" Sturdevant Jr.

Morris H. "Morrie"  Sturdevant Jr.
Morris 'Morrie" Sturdevant Jr., 75, of Deansboro, NY, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday April 1, 2018 in Oneida, NY.
He was born August 24, 1942 in Utica NY, a son of Morris H., Sr. and Carrie Blunt Sturdevant. Morris was a graduate of Waterville school. On August 7,1960 he married Gail Timian at the United Methodist Church in Deansboro NY. Morris was the owner and operator of Sturdevant Sales and Service where he worked with his son-in-law Richard Getchell for many years. Morris also worked for the town of Marshall Water Department from 1991-2012. He was also the town codes enforcer and worked in that department for many years. He became the Marshall Town Supervisor and was a member of the Barton Hose Fire Company in Deansboro. A man of many talents, he also drove school bus for Waterville Central School, and worked at the Hinman Milk Plant on Rt. 315. As the president of the Brothertown Association he was instrumental in saving the train station in Deansboro and was a wonderful Santa Claus for many years. Morris restored a cannon for the Oneida County Historical Society and played a great part in several other projects for the Historical Society in the years to come. Morrie, as his friends called him, was also an avid blacksmith and used his talents to help with many local projects. Surviving are his loving wife Gail of 57 years, daughters Carrie (Richard) Getchell and Caralinda Sturdevant both of Deansboro, a son Robert Sturdevant of Deansboro. sister, Marlene Durant of Sylvan Beach; granddaughter Dana VanHoeven; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Timothy Stedman of Munnsville.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY.
