Obituary for Enid Morris (Walters)

Enid Morris (Walters)
Enid Eiry Morris, 91, of University Ave. Hamilton, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at her home.
She was born August 4, 1926, in the small village of Bancffosfelen, Wales, one of nine children of Tom and Mary Rees Walters. She received her primary education in Bancffosfelen and her secondary education at Gwendraedth Valley Secondary School. After receiving a teaching certificate from Llandrindod Teachers College she taught in the experimental program in Maesteg establishing a Welsh School in an area where English had become the primary language. This is a program that now has wide acceptance in Welsh Education. On April 10, 1954, Enid married John Selwyn Morris in Ponteberem, Wales. Enid and John came to the United States where John became pastor of the Vernon Presbyterian Church. Later moving to Hamilton, Enid was active in the community and worked for Colgate University as the secretary to the Division of Humanities and later served as Administrative Assistant to the Peace Studies Program. She was the First Lady of Union College in Schenectady while John served as its President. At this time she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs NY. During the period of retirement, when not living in Hamilton, she lived briefly in San Augustine, Texas, Henniker, New Hampshire and Cazenovia, NY. When in Hamilton Enid attended Park United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul John and Susan Morris of Harvard, MA; her family in Wales including her niece Lee Owen of Hendy, Wales, and her family.
Services and interment in Colgate University Cemetery are private at the convenience of her family. There will be an open service of celebration of her life in early spring.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Park United Methodist Church, Hamilton, NY.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, NY.
