Obituary for Jean D. Isbell (Winkler)

Jean D. Isbell (Winkler)
Jean Dorene (Granny) Isbell of West Eaton, NY was called home by the Lord on January 23, 2018. She was 97 years old.
She was born 5th of eight on the family farm in Randolph, Wisconsin to Charlie and Clara Hansen Winkler, in 1921. The family moved to Erieville, NY when she was a child. Jean attended Morrisville-Eaton Central School and graduated salutatorian in 1938. Following a degree from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, NY, she worked for the James Longley Corp in Syracuse, and then Moses Cronk Company in Eaton, NY. In 1941 she married Francis E. Isbell and moved into their home in West Eaton, NY. Children arrived in the late 40’s and early 50’s, and then there was the cow, horse, chickens, gardens, canning, freezing, butter making, and cooking. In the midst of caring for all, she was bookkeeper for Francis’ excavating business until his death in 1996 and also operated the family’s mobile home park from its start in 1967 through 2001.
Actively engaged in the community, Jean led the local 4-H group for 17 years and was a Madison County Extension Service representative. Her special devotion, however, was to the West Eaton Baptist Church. In addition to serving as church treasurer for over 50 years, she taught Sunday School, acted as florist for Sunday services, and was a propelling force behind the church’s continuing service to the community.
She is survived by her children; Carl (Donna) Isbell of West Eaton, NY, John (Betsy) Isbell of Lee, MA, and Marilyn (Bruce) Eckersley of Spicewood, TX, and grandchildren; Greg, Karen, Trevin, Jonathan, Kendra, Matthew, and Tim, as well as 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Helen Mason, in Cazenovia, NY.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Monday January 29, 2018, at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home in Morrisville, NY.
The funeral service will take place at the West Eaton Baptist Church on Tuesday January 30, 2018, at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Eaton Baptist Church, Morrisville Library, or Hospice would be appreciated.
