Obituary for Robert E. Aikins

Robert E. Aikins, 88, of Chenango Ave., Sherburne, NY, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville. He was born in New Berlin on December 10, 1928 a son of the late Edwin and Veda Talbot Aikins and received his education in New Berlin and Sherburne Schools. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 1, 1950 in South Otselic he was united in marriage to the former Mary Jean Cooper. Robert worked for Benedict Supply, Sherburne for 40 years and then Agway Energy Products, Sherburne for 5 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Sherburne United Methodist Church, and the Sherburne Lions Club # 8240. He enjoyed coin collecting and being at the family camp on Eaton Brook Reservoir. He loved to make people laugh and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jean; his two sons and a daughter, Robert R. Aikins; Brian W. Aikins both of Sherburne and Nadine Alexander of Lafayette, a sister Dorothy Bauder of North Pitcher, 6 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne. There will be no calling hours.
Contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the Sherburne Vol Fire Dept.; the Sherburne Emergency Squad; the Sherburne United Methodist Church or the West Hill Cemetery Association.
