John M. Gratton, 83, of Old State Rd., Morrisville, NY, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born December 16, 1933 in Oneida, NY, a son of John F. and Eugenia Mills Gratton and was a graduate of Madison High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1955 to 1957. On March 20, 1955, John married Bernadette Godfrey in Oriskany Falls. Initially, John had been a NYS milk tester, receiving his certification from Cornell University. He later worked at Hoffman’s Packing Co. for 12 years, and then for the Carrier Corp as a setup person for 28 years until retiring in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, especially going on cruises. He was of the Methodist faith.
John was a former member of the Peterboro Fire Department and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Bernadette; his daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Raymond Rashford of Munnsville; Denise Sabine of Bouckville; Ann-Marie and James Rodman of Center Hill, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Leighton and Doreen Gratton of Morrisville; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Richard Brady of Oriskany Falls; ten grandchildren, Jacob, Vanessa, Tanya, Everett, Kayla, Marie, Destini, Jeffrey, Valerie and James; and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two great-grandchildren, Jebediah and Alicia.
Private graveside services will be held in the Stockbridge Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
