Virginia M. Carney, 84, of Memory Lane, Sherburne, NY, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Chase Memorial Health Rehab and Nursing Center in New Berlin, NY.
She was born February 23, 1933 in Otselic, a daughter of John and Gertrude Banks Satterlee and was a graduate of Otselic Valley High School. On September 1, 1951, Virginia married Donald H. Carney, Sr. in Norwich, He predeceased her on March 19, 2001. Virginia had worked at Proctor & Gamble in Norwich for 27 years until retiring in 2002. She had previously worked for the Norwich Shoe Company and Sherwood Medical in Sherburne and Norwich. She was of the Methodist faith. Virginia loved to knit, making hats for oncology patients in coordination with the 4-Wheeler Club; as well as mittens, scarves and blankets that she gave to schools and friends.
Surviving are her children, Donald H. Carney, Jr. and Katherine Lanfair, both of Sherburne; her sisters, Katherine Cummings of New Berlin; Mary (Ed) Phetteplace of Norwich; Betty (John) Combs of North Norwich; Leona Manwarren, Josephine (Harry) Warner, Becky (Dick) Hagaboon, all of Plymouth; brother, Herbert (Cheryl) Satterlee of North Norwich; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren all of whom she dearly loved; several nieces, nephew and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Rosemarie Satterlee.
Memorial services will be held at 1pm, Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
There are no calling hours.
