Obituary for Dorothy H. Holden (Henderson)

Dorothy H. Holden (Henderson)
Dorothy Jean Henderson Holden, 81, of Earlville, NY, formerly of Glen Aubrey, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
She was born October 2, 1935 in Johnson City, NY, the youngest of seven children of Raymond Alexander and Catherine Marie Wells Henderson. Raised in Conklin, NY, she attended primary school there, and was a graduate of Binghamton North High School in 1953. On October 23, 1954, she married Edwin K. Holden in Chenango Bridge. Dorothy had worked at the Binghamton Savings Bank, Manpower, and later as a dental assistant for Dr. Theise until 1983. Then, she bought a mobile lunch wagon that she and Ed would work at auctions during the summer for several years until they sold it and decided to go fishing! Primarily, Dorothy devoted her life to caring for her family. She was a fabulous cook and was well known for her strawberry shortcake. She was a blue-ribbon winner for her cooking at the Broome County Fair every year. Dorothy was also an avid hunter and loved gardening. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Active in her community, Dorothy had been a member of the Whitney Point Little League board where she served as its President. She was also a former member and President of the Whitney Point PTA.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Edwin; her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Susan Holden of Whitney Point; Mark and Pamela Holden of Jackson, AL; David and Sandra Holden of Silver City, NM; Dale and Nancy Holden of Earlville; a brother, Howard Henderson of Conklin; sister-in-law, Marie Henderson of Binghamton; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bernard and Robert Henderson, Lois Elliott, Mary Hoffman and Marjorie Kabanek.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held from 1-4pm Sunday, June 18 at Magro’s Banquet Hall, 110 Sanitarium Rd., Sherburne.
Interment is private at the convenience of her family.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Patient Activities Fund at the Crouse Community Center, 101 South St., Morrisville, NY 13408.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville.
