Obituary for Robert P. Toomath

Robert P. Toomath
Robert Toomath, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in Hamilton, NY,
after a long, valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by all 6 of his children
when he passed.
Robert was born in Johnson City, New York on March 24, 1938 to Robert Toomath
and Julia Kelm. He attended Morris Central School. In 1958, he married his high
school sweet heart, Brenda Winne. They spent almost 60 years together.
Robert was an entrepreneur, he had a passion for business. As a young adult, he
established and ran various small businesses. Later, he worked as a manager in the
meat department for Grand Union, and then became the North East District
Manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken. In 1971, he and his wife Brenda moved to
Hamilton and opened the Ye Olde Pizza Pub. They ran the Ye Olde Pizza Pub and
several other businesses (The Cricket, The Ice Creamery, The Morrisville Movie
Theater, and the Ye Olde Pizza Pub in Oneida). While running his businesses, he
impacted many people teaching them skills and trades that he thought could help
them throughout their lives. He also loved being a small business owner because it
provided opportunities to help people that were in need.
Robert loved the outdoors, being with family, and talking with people. His favorite
hobbies were gardening, bird watching, studying wildlife, creating stained glass
artwork, and wood carving.
Robert is survived by his six children; Michelle (John) Koen, Shawn Toomath,
Valerie (Scott) Danielson, Matthew (Alicia) Toomath, Heather (Cengiz) Cigeroglu,
and Aaron Toomath, his 15 grandchildren, his sister Joyce (Joseph) Lamphere,
sister-in-law, Marge Toomath, and several nieces. He is predeceased by his wife of
57 years, Brenda Winne Toomath.
A small gathering to celebrate his life will take place at the Ye Olde Pizza Pub in
Hamilton, NY on Saturday, May 27th from 12-3pm.
In lieu of flowers or gifts please consider instead donating in his memory to:
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
