Arlene Davis Fisher, 88, of Hamilton, NY, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at her home.
She was born on April 2, 1928 in Greene, NY, the ninth of twelve children of Miller Wade and Grace (McGowan) Davis. At the age of five, she lost her father and oldest brother, and her mother continued to run the family farm and raise her children. After graduating high school, Arlene married James Clark Harriger in 1946, and had one son in 1947. In 1963, she became the manager and subsequently purchased the Old Erie Coffee House in Dewitt. which she ran until 1980. After the death of her husband, she married Arnold Fisher in 1979 and moved to the Calvert Brook Stock Farm in Hamilton where she helped build the Angus herd. She became very active in local charities and politics and also ran a Bed & Breakfast. She enjoyed entertaining, gardening, cooking, baking and writing poetry.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Arnold; a brother, Milton Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, James C., Jr. and Barbara Harriger; step-daughters, Denise Fisher and Daphne Beardsley; granddaughter and her husband, Amy M. and Peter Dudar; great-granddaughters, Vivian Mae and Liliana Marie Dudar; several step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by ten of her brothers and sisters, her grandson, James Clark Harriger, III, and a daughter-in-law, Cynthia May Harriger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 11, 2016 from the First Baptist Church, Hamilton, followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Hamilton.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Wednesday from 7-9pm.
