Obituary for Florence Williams

Florence Williams

Florence Williams

Waterville:

Florence Williams , 95, Our sweet Gramie went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Florence grew up in Yorkville, NY during the Great Depression with her parents, Willard & Margery Sterling and her brother, Robert. She graduated from Whitesboro Central School. She met her husband Glen T. Williams on a blind date at a square dance & the two moved to Waterville. They were united in marriage on September 26, 1942. Four months after their marriage, Glen was called to serve his country during World War II. He served for three years without a single overnight pass. She worked at Bossert Manufacturing Co in Utica, NY in the maintenance department to test furnaces containing shell casings. After the war, they raised their three daughters at their home in Sangerfield. Florence worked at Waterville Central School as a bus driver and in the kitchen. She was very active with the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile as part of the Ziyara Shriners organization. She was of Presbyterian faith but most recently became a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church. She loved to play kickball with her grandkids and always had a gigantic garden. Her and her family enjoyed trips to Cape Cod in the summer and playing cards with their friends.

She leaves behind her three daughters, Sharon Winterrowd of Pueblo, CO, Glenice Barnes and husband Mike of North Brookfield, & Roberta Briggs and husband Lauren of Hamilton, her six granddaughters, Jennifer Briggs, Megan Barnes, Lynette (Seth) Montgomery, Janet Briggs, Cheryl (John) McGurk, Amanda Barnes and her favorite grandson, Greg (Julie) Barnes. She was also the great-gramie to Haley, Addison, Lauren, Elena, Layla, Ethan and Michael. She is predeceased by her parents, brother, husband and two infant sons.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at 2 PM from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel) 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY. Interment will be held in the spring in the Waterville Cemetery. Friends are invited and my call on Sunday from Noon to 2 PM prior to the service.
