Jean-Yves Zénon, 63, of Waterville and Smyrna, New York and Brissarthe, France, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, after a long battle with acute leukemia. Yves was born in Brissarthe on September 14, 1950. After working in restaurants around the world, including on a ship crossing the Atlantic, he moved to New York City where he met Mary Doyle. They were married on November 25, 1988, in Putnam Valley, New York. Mary and Yves relocated to Waterville in 1989 and ran the successful restaurant, La Petite Maison, for over twenty years. Yves loved being with his family and friends, traveling, cooking, good wine, and being at the cabin in Smyrna.
Yves is survived by his wife, Mary Doyle Zénon, and sons Thomas of Charleston, South Carolina, and Patrick of Henndorf, Austria. Family surviving him in France are his sister, Monique Chevé, nieces and nephews, Philippe Chevé and Laurence, Béatrice and Michel Simard, Caroline Chevé and Pitou, and two special cousins, Armand and André Gougeon. He is also survived by Mary’s family, Thomas and Michelle Doyle, Long Island, Michael Doyle, New York City, Stephen and Bonnie Doyle, Portland, Oregon, and Terrence and Catherine Doyle, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and their families.
Special thanks go to Dr. Robert Soiffer and the 8th floor staff at the Dana Farber Institute in Boston, Dr. Alicia Detraglia and her staff, the Faxton infusion unit, the pharmacists at the Waterville CVS, everyone on the 6th floor of St. Lukes Hospital, Dr. Kevin Matthews, and Dr. Francis Chabot.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday, November 2, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Brissarthe, France at a later date.
