Stanley L. Young, 77, of Montgomery St. , Hamilton, NY passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center , Utica .
He was born June 30, 1934 in Bouckville, a son of Otto G., Sr. and Gladys Blair Young and was a graduate of Hamilton High School in 1953. On April 30, 1955, Stanley married Mary Bailey in Bath , NY . She predeceased him on July 6, 1996. Stan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years where he saw combat in the Viet Nam War and retired in 1976. From 1977 until 1993, he worked for the Mid York Press in Hamilton , as a pressman, and then as Managing Editor of the Mid York Weekly until his retirement. Stan enjoyed golfing and bowling, but was happiest when spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Stan was a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Hamilton ; the F&AM Lodge #120 of Hamilton where he was a Past Master; a member and Past Patron of the O.E.S. #511 of Hamilton . He was a former member and Past Monarch of the Mokanna Grotto #1; and SOMAC.
Surviving are his three daughters, Karen Young, Charlottesville, VA; Gail Young of Hamilton; Elaine Murphy and her fiancé, Adam Corbitt of Belpry, OH; a sister, Ruth Wallace of Hamilton; his grandchildren, Michael and Heather Heap of Huntsville, TX; and Russel Squires of Vienna, WV; two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Eli Heap; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Winterhalt and his brothers, Carter, Melvin, Charles, Otto, Jr. and Clyde Young.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St. , Hamilton , followed by interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery , Hamilton .
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8pm.
